Beneath Avion city, where dung and garbage have been collecting for centuries there is a thriving nocturnal society. Little is known of these fungus creatures, in fact one the only things known of them is that they don't want to be known. In secret, they have a pact with the Avions- "Speak not of us, and we will not bother you. Do not enter our domain, and we will not enter into yours". People who have studied them from a distance say that they lie dormant during the day, and when the sun goes down, these silent mushroom people start to awaken and move about. They appear to be a highly developed race with focus on discipline and fast paced fighting skills, which come in handy given the horrible monsters that are also said to thrive beneath Avion. I have said too much.

It is said that from the primordial ooze of feces and waste beneath Eternia evolved a race of dark sewer dwellers known as the Shitites. Only fabled to exist, people who claim to have seen them are often dismissed as crazy, some of these people strangely disappear soon after speaking of what they had seen. The articulation is not as great as the original Bandai ones, but at this price, it's totally worth the disappointment.

Maybe it could be more ridiculous, like if they packaged one military guy with a little toy bi-plane that transforms into a robot, and if the packaging made it seem like a cool Gundam or something and made NO mention of the military guy at all. But obviously NO company would go that far...

OMFG!!! My dreams have come true! ANDROID SUPER FORCE is here! The back of the card ONLY shows how to transform the bi-plane, they make NO mention of the soldier. It's as if they are trying to sneak the bazooka wielding soldier into your kids toy box. Does he have a secret mission to carry out? Hmmm.

Kick Ass custom for my friend

My friend Dave Lizewski (aka the real Kick Ass) asked me to customize this Mickey "Vinylmation" for him. I had free creative control to make whatever I wanted, so after six months of racking my brain for ideas it finally struck me to make Kick Ass. In hindsight it was soooooooo obvious.

I'm not to good with painting tight lines, but it came out okay. I molded wire (the annoying kind that is used in toy packaging) into the accessories.

COOL! Super Change Spiderman!

Wait a sec....

I swear I did not make this, his bubble is just a little crushed and starting to fall off the card. If I found this at an actual retail store the only "Super Change" I can see happening is where I buy my toys from then on. So many questions are raised when looking at this, like why does he come with a flag pole?

I'm afraid that if I open him, people will think that I have four junky Spiderman toys rather than one Super Change : EVIL ERADICATOR. Sorry lil' buddy, it's life in plastic prison for you. Now if we could just find the makers of this atrocity and deal them a similar fate.

Of Blind Box Toys

The concept of the blind-box toy seems new, but in fact it has been around for quite some time. Gum-ball machine toys, Happy-Meal toys, cereal box toys, and Cracker Jack prizes are all blind-box toys. A whole generation of kids were raised getting toy prizes so often that when we grew up, we began feinding for fix. Many people didn't know exactly what they were feinding for, until the modern blind box toy came around and exploded with popularity. These things are huge right now, although generally quite small actually.

This cute lil' Joker comes from a cereal box.

This ugly-doll isn't a blind box toy at all, it actually goes against the flow of BBT's and has window box packaging! Wow, what a concept! Read what it says on the little flap.

Krang highly approves of this packaging and the size of the figure within. It even has five points of articulation!

Pete's Dragon is from McDonalds, little dino is from a gumball machine and Godzilla is a real blind box toy from Japan.

**Note how very few of these are the toys that came to mind when reading the title of this post.

They stretch for miles

My brother and I began collecting at the same time, when we shared an apartment together. We collected just about anything 3-3/4 scale as well as the 6" to 8" scale figures that have become the standard over recent years. A couple of years ago we each got our own places and had to figure (-no pun intended) out a way to split this massive collection in two, which at the time I would estimate was around 2000 figures strong. The collection FILLED our apartment, every room except the bathroom was toys toys toys! We even had several bins full in the closet.

We split it by scale. He kept the 3-3/4, I got everything above. And we have both built our collections in a more streamlined fashion ever since.

Eventually my brother moved in with his girlfriend who had a small collection of animals and children, things that don't go very well with toys quite frankly. It just so happens that I have an extra room at my place, so I am renting it out to his modest little collection. Here are some pics of the room (which is way too small, sadly). It's still not completely set up, but it's epic none the less.

Anyways, over at Freak Studio's blog he's having a contest to give away this gnarly Fuerza-T figure, which to a MOTU collector, might as well be made of pure gold. I just so happened to be in the process of making these two customs, this contest gave me a little push to get them finished. Krang and I skipped work for two days to draw this Pin-Up for a local art show, then on the third day I actually got sick, so I popped a couple pills and completed the piece. A few of my newest friends stopped by to check it out!

Then a few more friends stopped by for a photo shoot, which had FAIL written all over it. I ultimately decided to show the pic anyways since some of them rarely stop by, if at all.

I guess I should go to work tomorrow, I need to fund my toy addiction somehow.

By far my favorite thing about this years GI Joe Convention was this tiny display on some dealers table. He was busy with a paying customer so I couldn't ask him about this, but it looked to be an official store display of the cancelled line of GI Joe Manimals.

Seeing these placed on some random dealer table in the back of the room was as odd as the toys themselves. I literally went bug eyed when I spotted them, probably not unlike the toy stores did back in 1994 when Hasbro was shopping these around. The cancellation of this set marked the end of the original run of 3-3/4 Joes. *teardrop*

In the two weeks since I found out about this I've already gathered three, I can only imagine how many I would have hoarded had I been in the know when these were only $1.00 at Burger King. A photo can't possibly do this guy justice as his eye is attached via a spring and shakes around dizzyingly when you touch him. A remarkably simple design with just enough articulation and a neat-o action feature. Truly one of the greatest fast food toys I have ever seen. Okay, maybe I'm just a sucker for one eyed things...wait that didn't come out right.

He's from the movie "Planet 51" by the way, and almost the size of a Ninja Turtle.

I mean Joe Con ! This years GI JOE Convention was held just a half-hour away in Providence RI. A few years ago I would have wet my self in anticipation for such an event, but (to make a long story short) I don't collect this line anymore.

I still HAD TO attend of course, just to satisfy my long time curiosity of what Joe Con had in store. You know how when you go to a Toy or Comic con and all of the dealers have different goodies and doo dads? Well here at Joe Con it is quite different, all of the dealers had pretty much the same thing from booth to booth, with slightly varying prices ($20 Night Vipers? Really?). A (very) few dealers had other things, like overpriced Battle Beasts and Transformers. The coolest thing about the show is that everyone there is on equal terms as far as being a geek goes. Safe from the oppression of the outside world, it really feels good to let your nerdiness out once and a while. That is until Cobra Commander comes and out-haggles you for the one figure you need!There were a lot of cool customs and dioramas on display as well. I wish I had known, I would have liked to have entered one of my own. Oh well.

BAF Frankenstein

One day while rummaging through my chest of accessories I found the left arm for universal monsters Build-a-Figure Frankenstein. I had only bought the Creature figure and had no intention in getting the rest of the set to complete this BAF, the Creature happens to be the rarest one from the set (next to impossible to find, actually). So I decided to check eBay to see if it was worth selling, but while on there I found a near-complete Franky, only missing this very left arm! The collector in me took over and made the purchase.
I present to you, Franken-Sentinel.

These Universal Monsters figures were made by the company Toy Island, who randomly releases some great toys. In the past they were responsible for "The Mask", 3-3/4" Rambo, 3-3/4" Terminator, 3-3/4" Robocop, and Space Attack!

Space Attack is one of the more obscure toy lines from the 90's. Check out this backing card, what a wild line-up! One of them is clearly a Biker Scout, another is almost named Obama (and is commander no less), and another is named after the creators of Mega-Man, Capcom!

Stunt Doubles 3 - The sequel to the sequel

Action figures are like movie stars, they need to be groomed and pampered. So who does all of the dirty work? That's a job for... the stunt doubles!

Garax, one of the most hard bodied figures of the 80's (after He-Man of course) keeps his self clean by any means possible. Unfortunately his stunt double doesn't make the big bucks to afford a botox, full body massage and colon cleanse once a week. He's found that for just .25 cents he can run himself through the washing machine at the local laundromat, but all of that Tide with Bleach are beginning to rip holes in his Guess jeans.

Now here is a man who could use that Tide with bleach. Mantor seems to have pee'd himself, I don't know what to say. I thought Sectaurs had a little more self respect than other 80's toy lines. They always looked more classy, what with their ball joints and shiny paint, not to mention the gold colored weapons. C'mon guy, get it together! Maybe stunt-Garax will lend you a quarter.

Sometimes toys get roughed up a bit, and that's when they get relegated to "stunt double" status. Here we go with another round, can you tell the real toy from the lame "made for kids to play with and ruin" imitation?
Okay, here is our friend Krang, and sitting beside him is his trustworthy stunt double, Krong. Krong has it rough, he pays child support when he can afford to, which is never, since Krang himself hasn't even worked in a syndicated decade. Oxygen has yellowed Krong's dome, stunts have taken his arm(s), and a woman has stolen his little krangezoid heart. Can a being that is only one organ have a heart inside of said organ? Hmm...

"Sectaurs Prince Dargon needs a variant color scheme like he needs a hole in his head." Oh wait, I didn't mean that! Wait! Wait! Oh, it's too late, whats done is done.

This is sad and maybe a little bit pathetic. This web site's mascot, Krang, sits on a Madball's Oculus Orbus body, of which I have three. I was always quite proud of the fact that all three bodys had a working clip which holds the spring-loaded head on. This clip is VERY fragile and it seems like half of the Madball figures around today have broken clips.

For this article I thought it might be humorous to make it seem as though this mummy head was Krang's stunt double. BIG fail, I know. To add to the failure, when changing the Oculus head to the mummy head, I accidentally broke the clip! So now I really do have a stunt double Krang!

Sometimes toys get roughed up a bit, and that's when they get relegated to "stunt double" status. Some are wounded in battle, some get their hair caught in Trap Jaw's mouth, some might come from smoke filled houses and cant clean the yellow gunk off of themselves. See if you can tell the real star from the stunt double in these photos.
Anyone who has New Adventures of He-Man Optikk can attest to the fact that Opti (plural) are a trigger happy little evil race. They cant keep their right arm down to save their lives. That is unless some kid breaks the mechanism that keeps it springing up, wink wink.
It's also quite hard to keep He-Man's sword out of your eye when you are cursed with no eyelids! The God's of Eternia are cruel to say the least!

It's hard to tell, but one of these Blizzard's is angry. Look at that abominable haircut (no pun intended)! His barber (read: butcher) must have a Kid 'n Play obsession, and this is the last toy on your shelf that you want to piss off, let me tell you. He's from a fighting game called Primal Rage and isn't he just the perfect lil' poster boy for it.

Okay, maybe having eyelids isn't a cure-all for eye injury's, but c'mon, half of your iris is missing buddy! It's no surprise you missed that jelly stain on your belt, Shaggy and Scooby will track you down in a minute.

Here is what could possibly be the best remake of ANY classic toy, MOTUC Battle Cat and He-Man.

Oh look, Mexico has there own take on MOTU classics! Except instead of more articulation and better sculpting, they've opted to simply make castings of the originals (and the knock-offs of the originals) in random colors, sometimes losing articulation in the process. I cant resist the charm of these flaky lead-based painted uglies.

Arguably one of the most frightening bootlegs of any classic toy line ever.

I'm not sure how well mag-rims fair in battle, but when you wear a loincloth and a couple belts as armor, maybe it's just further proof of your bad-assery.

Yes, those are glued on "googly" eyes! I've made cleaner circles on napkins with a cup of coffee than this "paint job", but this guy has way more charm than the original in my opinion.
